Sutton Details Balanced $41.9 Million FY2027 Operating Budget
SUTTON — Sutton's town government has detailed a balanced $41.9 million operating budget for fiscal year 2027, with 56.2 percent of spending directed toward education, according to the town's OpenBook financial transparency portal.

The adopted FY2027 operating budget totals $41,871,239 across 629 line items, balanced against $42,010,413 in total revenue, a surplus of about $139,000. Education leads all spending at $23.6 million, followed by unclassified costs at $5.0 million, public safety at $3.9 million, debt service at $2.5 million, and intergovernmental costs at $2.5 million. General government accounts for $2.3 million and public works and facilities for $1.3 million. On the revenue side, taxes and excise bring in $30.7 million, state aid $7.7 million, local receipts $2.7 million, and other financing sources $820,000.
The town also outlined a $2.0 million FY2027 capital investment plan. The largest share, $736,000, goes to the Highway Department, followed by $730,000 for Sutton Public Schools and $195,000 for the Fire Department. Separately, the town reported $11.2 million in total reserves for FY2026: $4.0 million in certified free cash, $2.9 million in general stabilization, $1.8 million in capital stabilization, and $891,000 in sewer retained earnings, funds officials say support the town's bond rating and long-term financial stability.
